The article below, written by Matt Friedman, is a great reminder that doing one small thing can make a positive difference! Make a commitment and keep it! I recently received a quote from John Adams which reads “There are two types of people, those who make commitments and those who keep them”. Today, what will you do to help prevent child human trafficking?
Many people feel hesitant to get involved in the fight against human trafficking because they believe it demands enormous sacrifices or major life changes. This “all or nothing” attitude can be a barrier, preventing individuals from taking even the smallest steps toward making a difference.
During a recent presentation, I met two individuals who voiced this common concern. One said, “How can I do this kind of work? Where is the time? I can’t keep up with everything going on in my life. There isn’t any room for one more thing.”
Another person expressed, “Until hearing this talk, I always thought that if I did my part, I’d have to do something big and time-consuming. It always felt like an all-or-nothing prospect.”
Their words echo the feelings of many who wish to help but feel overwhelmed by the idea of commitment.
When I hear these thoughts, I respond with a simple question: “Do you think you could carve out just one hour in a month to help make a difference in the world?”
To my surprise, nearly everyone responds positively, saying, “Yes, I could do that.” Many then add, “But I thought much more would be needed.”
This mindset can often stop people from acting altogether. The truth is that making a difference doesn’t have to mean altering your entire life.
Heroic actions can come in small, manageable packages. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing—there's so much we can do in between.
If the commitment feels too daunting, consider lowering your expectations to what is actually achievable for you.
When we share information about human trafficking, post articles on social media, or volunteer with local organizations, we’re participating in the solution.
Even donating, no matter the amount, contributes to the fight against this issue. These actions can become part of our regular lives.
The more we integrate them, the less they seem like extraordinary efforts and the more they turn into everyday habits.
Imagine the impact we can make if each of us dedicates just a small fraction of our time and resources to challenge this grave injustice.
Together, we can create ripples of change. Every little bit counts, and when combined with the efforts of others, these small acts can have a profound impact.
Remember, you don’t have to be a super hero to make a difference.
You just need to take that first small step. Let's not let the fear of inadequacy hold us back. Your voice matters, your actions matter, and together, we can shine a light on human trafficking.
